Power On offers technology services that educate and empower. That comes in a variety of forms, but we always strongly encourage and try to facilitate learning as much about your technology as is practical, so that you can work and live more effectively and independently. It sounds common sense, but we think it’s better if technology makes you feel smarter and more capable, rather than being a constant source of confusion and anxiety, as it can be for many.
Web Development
A clean and professional website is important no matter what your line of work. A survey of Lansing’s downtown businesses revealed that an online presence is by far their most effective marketing investment. If you’re not online yet or aren’t happy with your current website or use of social media, we can help, with affordable design and development starting as low as $200.
Tech Support & Repair
If it runs on electricity and it’s not working like you want it to, we can probably help – whether you’re an individual or run a small business. That includes laptops, desktops, tablets, phones, game consoles – you name it. We offer some of the best prices in town with a level of service I guarantee you’ll be impressed with. And with our focus on education, we’ll help you learn what went wrong and give you a deeper understanding of your technology, so you can avoid the same problems in the future.
Classes & Tutoring
The only classes we have running right now are our Senior Computing classes at the wonderful Greer Community Learning Center. We offer a 101 and 102, both being 6 week courses, offered every 12 weeks. Whether you’ve never touched a computer before in your life or you just want to keep improving, both of these classes are highly individualized, with learning materials and personal attention to help you overcome your anxiety and master the skills you want to learn.
If the above classes aren’t right for you, or you’d just prefer some one-on-one, we also offer tutoring to help you learn anything from basic computer skills to web development and programming. If you’re not sure we can help, just ask.
Volunteer Youth Programs
We have two youth services we offer: Computers for Kids and Geek Scouts.
Computers for Kids works with elementary school children in the Greater Lansing Area that don’t have access to a computer at home. We repair and refurbish donated computers, then load them up with free, educational software, and show the children how to use them. Despite common belief, children aren’t born with a knack for technology – they need a chance to use it and experiment with it. The digital divide is unfortunately very real and thriving in our own communities. If you have a computer to donate, let us know and you can help be the bridge.
Geek Scouts is a scouting program, designed to help prepare youth for their future, rather than our past. That means learning to be an active and savvy creator on the Internet, rather than just a passive user of what others build. These skills are useful and even quickly becoming essential for any line of work, not just those directly linked to technology. Don’t believe me? Watch the video below.
